Horticultural Therapy Institute - Course Overviews HTI classes are designed to train professionals in the core knowledge to practice horticultural therapy. Focus is on the "Horticultural Therapy Specialization" area of the AHTA Core Curriculum, with an emphasis on synthesis of and practical application of knowledge. Course Overview: This course introduces the profession and practice of horticultural therapy
and describes the types of programs utilizing horticultural therapy as well as the cognitive, social, emotional and physical goals for the diversity of people served. It also exposes students to professionals in the field, literature and resources for further exploration. Useful as a substantial introduction to the field, this course is also a prerequisite for all other HTI certificate courses. Optional Credit: Academic credit (2 semester hours) $144.00 |

Course Overview: This course explores how and why horticultural therapy is effective. It describes and demonstrates techniques to communicate effectively with, and encourage constructive change in, HT program participants. It outlines the treatment process and evaluation, as well as research as a tool for HT programs. This course is generally offered in the Spring semester. Course Overview: This course provides models of horticultural therapy programs. The course includes examples and practice in planning, implementing and documenting effective treatment programs for individuals and groups participating in HT programs. The emphasis is on the process and practice of HT in various types of settings. This course is generally offered in the Spring or Summer semesters. Course Overview: This
course will teach methods for adapting tools, environments and
tasks to enable clients in HT programs to fully participate in
gardening activities. Considerations and solutions for indoor
and outdoor garden design will be presented, as well as management
of the horticulture site. The applied use of tools, raised beds,
and other modifications is stressed. This course is generally offered in the Spring or Optional Credit: Academic credit (2 semester hours) $144.00 |

Course Overview: This course prepares students to develop, manage and evaluate horticultural therapy programs. Strategies for obtaining funding and resources to support programs is included, as well as how to provide horticultural therapy services as a private contractor.
